(Please see follow-up report: MDA Draws Blood at Elav Missionary Conference in Jerusalem)
Tonight, during the three week period between the fast of the 17th of Tammuz to the fast of the 9th of Av, in the shadow of Jerusalem’s Old City and the Temple Mount, throngs of Israeli teens and a good number of zealous Christian youth from abroad will be gathering at Jerusalem’s First Station for the Elav's 2015 messianic missionary rock and jesus worship concert. The organizers of the annual Elav event, Succat Hallel, have openly called for “a Jesus Revolution in Israel”.
In previous years Elav’s missionary extravaganzas have been held at venues such as Hangar 11 in Tel Aviv and the International Convention Center in Haifa. But we really have to wonder how the management of First Station and the municipal powers-that-be in a Jewish Jerusalem can justify this one.
And just in case anyone remains uncertain of the ELAV event’s intentions, its "Statement of Participant’s Parents" for minors includes the following:
"… we give our consent to the expose the participant to a religious persuading, which may lead to the conversion of his religion."
Jerusalem city Councilman Aryeh King has been actively involved in trying to stop the event and it has been reported that there will be an anti-missionary presence outside of First Station protesting this evening.
