JewishIsrael Cited in Article on Messianics Published in "the Atlantic"

Kosher Jesus: Messianic Jews in the Holy Land is the title of an in-depth article by Sarah Posner, which has just been published in the American magazine, The Atlantic.

Posner is a widely published journalist and author, currently serving as the senior editor of the online magazine Religion Dispatches. Her politically left leanings come through in the  Atlantic article, but nevertheless it is an extremely well researched piece and worth a read by those tracking the inroads American evangelicals and their "messianic" cohorts are making in Israel.

The article's top and bottom line is that "Messianic Jews are assiduously attempting to, essentially, redeem Israel from its Jewishness."  That rings true regardless on one's political leanings.

Posner made the messianic rounds while in Israel last summer and managed to interview some very key players in the jesus movement here. She also quotes representatives from counter missionary organizations and cites JewishIsrael in the article.

It is worth noting that Posner draws the distinction between "Jews for Jesus" and so-called "messianic Jews", something that remains a source of confusion for many trying to understand missionary groups and tactics. Excerpt:

"Messianic Jews believe that Jesus is the Jewish messiah, and that the Bible prophesizes that God's plan is for him to return to Jerusalem, prevail in an apocalyptic battle with the Antichrist, and rule the world from the Temple Mount. Unlike Jews for Jesus, which focuses on bringing Jews into churches, Messianic Jews seek to make Jews believers in Jesus while still maintaining congregations that identify as Jewish and observe Jewish customs and holidays."
