BURNING ISSUES

"Is it permissible to burn missionary materials?" We've blogged about it and written a guide about it. Pat Robertson has plenty to say about it, too (view this video clip). What do the rabbis have to say? Join our halachic forum and have your say.

Jewish Mother contacts her "lost" son

After a CFI (Christians for Israel) volunteer managed to bring an Israeli cop to Jesus and get him baptized and married, his mother made contact with him via a Jewish Israel blogger. Guaranteed tears on this one

Friends or Foes? You Decide

"Christians need to pray more fervently for the spread of the Gospel among the Jewish people in Israel...We also need to pray for religious liberty there." ---Jim Sibley, Director of Jewish Studies Criswall College, Dallas
-----
"...And the most exciting part is that I am granted an automatic permanent visa in Israel - that's right! CFI is so highly respected by the Israeli government that I am granted automatic visa renewals without any trouble on a permanent status...Now I am watching my dreams unfold before me of being a permanent missionary/volunteer in Israel...This is my highest calling to the people of Israel... that they would know Messiah." ---- from the diary of Erin - a Christian Friends of Israel (CFI) volunteer
-----
"Jews need to begin to cry out for their Messiah...I've met wonderful Jews... here in Jerusalem, who are all saying 'Yes, Jesus you are our Messiah,"
----Pat Robertson at the ICEJ Feast of the Tabernacles
-----
“There are many messianic Jews in Israel right now who are sharing the gospel, and are part of the military, serving with the Israeli Defense Force.”
---Jay Sekulow, Messianic Chief Council for the American Center for Law and Justice (ACLJ),
-----
We cannot help but be missionaries and I have discovered that some Jews despise us if we pretend not to be!"
----David Pawson bible teacher and lecturer for ICEJ
-------
“The on-going and unpredictable violence created a climate of fear in Israel – but at the same time, this climate of fear opened the door for unbelievable evangelism opportunities for our team.” ----Messianic Christian "Rabbi " Scott Sekulow
------
“ Even though many people are afraid to share the gospel here, I tell you I have never had any problem...we were giving away beautiful posters to the Israeli soldiers at checkpoints ... The Russian Jews are the most open Jewish people group to the gospel on the face of the earth at this moment. The Russians today were begging us for New Testaments … "
----Christine Darg ,Exploits Ministries, Covenant Alliances, in partnership with the Knesset Christian Allies Caucus
------
"Shani and Jim 'Kobi' Ferguson also minister in Israel. This family has begun its own ministry in Jerusalem called YeshuaIsrael to help further the evangelistic thrust into Israel".

Breaking News on the Israel-Christian Front

And you thought replacement theology was dead:
Maoz Israel is $2,500,000 plus enterprise based in Israel which targets Jews for conversion, propagates "messianic judaism", and has an incredible disdain for Orthodox Jewry. This Tisha b’Av, their blog encourages "friends" not to fast with the Jewish people but for them...
(Excerpt): "Many Jews will be fasting, as a sign of mourning over the destructionof the Temples. But we at Maoz encourage our friends around the world, to fast not with the Israeli people, but for them. To fast that the nation would see that we are the Temple of God! We are the Body of Messiah, the LORD now lives in us!...:...more

Look what’s hanging over Jerusalem on Erev Tisha b’Av:
It’s Erev Tisha b’Av and a banner welcoming a missionary church and displaying a new testament passage hangs over the entrance of a popular Jerusalem hotel. Properly welcoming tourists of other faiths into Ir Hakodesh and into Eretz Yisrael surely doesn’t warrant this shameful display. But Jesus- friendly banners in Jerusalem may be the least of our problems…more

The Jesus National Fund? UPDATE
What would Bubbe say if her little blue JNF box suddenly bore a cross?
These days the Jewish National Fund (KKL-JNF) is not only fighting fierce forest fires, but they also appear to be fanning the "fire and brimstone" by forming a partnership with evangelical end-timers from BibleLandTrees.org. The videos and written content on the site place an emphasis on new testament scripture, end-times prophecy, and refer to jesus as king, savior and messiah. As an example, one featured video clip says, "And we plant trees so the land will blossom for his [jesus’] coming" (Bubbe would plotz over that one)...more

The Galilean Resort’s Missionary and Rabbinic Hechsher
In this report, Jewish Israel explores and exposes the evangelizing agenda of certain Christian personalities whose names appear as endorsers on the list which Jewish Israel found in the Advisory Board section of the Galilean website (see previous post). Jewish Israel continues to alert the Jewish community that these Christian leaders are fully committed in their mission of bringing the gospel of jesus christ to the Jewish people. We hope that Rabbi Riskin and the rest of the Jews involved in this project will take this report into consideration and will bear in mind that their continued theologically–based endeavors with these missionary personalities poses an existential spiritual threat to the Jewish people in the Land of Israel...more

Interfaith Jesus resort to open on shores of Galilee:
Anne Ayalon, Rabbi Riskin and a host of other Jewish Israeli luminaries, have gone public - via an internet site - with plans for the establishment of a five-star resort, “celebrating” the Christian faith. The Galilean resort is being built on prime real estate on the shores of the Sea of Galilee - in the “cradle of Christianity”, and is being heralded as “an historic opportunity to establish the world Christian spiritual center at the very birthplace of Christianity.” The project enjoys a staggering Jewish-Christian list of endorsements . Everyone from Orthodox rabbis and Torah observant academics and entrepreneurs, to notorious mega-preachers and missionaries (including a famous advocate for Jews for Jesus), have jumped on this Jesus boat...more

Taking a moral stand with Israel- no strings attached
At this challenging time, Jewish Israel would like to express appreciation to all good people across the political and religious spectrum – Jew and Gentile alike - who are taking a moral stand with Israel. It’s heartening to hear the many voices who respect individual and national borders; who can discern right from wrong; and who strive for a humane and civil society.
We ask those Jewish community leaders who choose to work with evangelical organizations to try and ensure that Christian friends express their support in a manner that respects the unique nature of Judaism. ...more

UPDATE: Beersheva messianic Christians lose lawsuit
The missionary organization MaozIsrael is reporting that the Nachalat Yeshua Messianic congregation, led by Pastor Howard Bass, has lost their lawsuit against Beersheva Chief Rabbi Yehuda Deri and the counter-missionary organization Yad L'Achim. The trial concerned a disturbance which allegedly ensued when members of the Beersheva Orthodox community tried to prevent the baptism of Jews to Christianity by breaking into a messianic church compound. Last July JewishIsrael reported on the wide and one-sided coverage and publicity given the trial by the Jerusalem Post and Evangelical and messianic Christian news outlets. But now that the verdict is in, there is remarkable silence...more

Vice PM Yaalon at Epicenter in the name of Jesus?
Jewish Israel does not believe that Vice Prime Minister Moshe Yaalon intends to offer Christians “practical ways to bless Israel and her neighbors in the name of Jesus…” However, that’s what the promotional site for Joel Rosenberg’s Epicenter 2010 Conference seems to say. All Israeli public servants, government ministers and community and business leaders should take care to review the promotional materials and publicity before, during, and after events that are sponsored by evangelical sources in order to ensure that they don’t inadvertently become a tool in spreading the Christian gospel.
With regards to Epicenter 2010, there are other additional problems …more
